Four Greek initiatives among the winners of the European Climate Pact’s Pact2School Challenge

Four Greek initiatives have been selected among the 15 winners of the Pact2School Challenge, the European Climate Pact’s European-wide challenge that enables Climate Pact Ambassadors and Partners to turn ideas for climate action into concrete activities in schools and universities.

The selected activities will each receive €1,000 in funding from the European Climate Pact and will be implemented in collaboration with students and university students. The activities will take place from September through November 2026.

The four Greek initiatives

The Greek proposals address different aspects of climate action, from biodiversity and coastal protection to reducing food waste. More specifically:

• “A walk in the park that bees love! Getting to know bee-friendly plants” with Marianna Rappou

Linked to the 7th Primary School of Ilion, the activity focuses on plants that are beneficial to pollinators. Students will have the opportunity to discover these plants first-hand, capture their experiences through creative activities, and encourage their observation and planting at home.

• “Learning about climate action through beach clean-ups and climate walks” with Eleni Antoniadou of Ecogenia

Students in Chania will take part in a beach clean-up and climate walks, exploring through experiential activities issues such as pollution and its impact on coastal areas. The activity will also include the creation of related projects and group activities.

• “Zero Food Waste Classroom: From measurement to action” with Maria Voutsina

At the University of Patras, students will record and measure food waste, examine its causes and, based on the data they collect, test practical solutions to reduce it.

• “Zero-Waste Classrooms: From food waste to soil and growth” with Nasos Makios

An eight-week programme will be implemented at the 13th Primary School of Kalamata, aiming to reduce food waste. Students will take part in sorting and measuring food waste and will then participate in the composting process, connecting waste reduction with the production and growth of plants.

From awareness to action

Pact2School is an initiative of the European Climate Pact that connects schools and universities with the Climate Pact community, with the aim of helping young people better understand climate change and engage in practical climate action.

As part of Pact2School, 112 sessions were held in 22 European countries in late 2025 and early 2026, involving 46 schools and universities. From the proposals submitted, 15 winners were selected, including the four Greek initiatives.

The activities of the Greek winners, which will be implemented over the coming months, will give students and university students the opportunity to actively participate in designing and implementing solutions connected to everyday life and the environment.
